Zürich

We arrived in Zürich on our Airbus A380–800. For the first time, in my experience, our aircraft had a camera which let you see out the front window to see what the pilots would be seeing.

The landing was a little rough, you can hear in the background things hitting the ground like water bottles which were not properly secured. Amusingly, a second or so after we landed a dialogue box popped up on the screen asking how the flight was!

Zürich airport is very efficient, there was an underground train that took you from one part of the terminal to another.

Then we reached our hotel, which looked a little unprepossessing on the outside but is very nice inside.

After a much needed sleep, we took a 10 minute walk to get to the local and main railway station.

They have an extensive tram network, with a lot of the trams being a lot longer than the Melbourne ones.

In the afternoon we took a bus tour of the city and surrounds, starting with Lake Zürich.

Then a cable car to the top of a nearby hill (Felsenegg).

Then some other interesting parts of the city.

Last time I was in Zurich I had a hot day in early August. Found a swimming beach on the lake and with snow-capped mountains visible in the south. glad you got there safely. Enjoy. KathyL

Apparently Lake Zürich is about 22°, and there were indeed people swimming in it.

They are great photos, and you certainly achieved a lot on your first day! Enjoy.

We were walking around like zombies on the day that we arrived, but we regrouped on the second day.

Gorgeous looking weather – what a treat! Mal and I stayed with a couple of pals in Basel two years ago and they decided that we should all (4 adults and one baby) go to Zurich for a meal on our last night together. – just 45 in away. We got stuck in a massive traffic jam on the motorway with no escape! Missed our booking at the restaurant and baby getting VERY restless. I think we got to a restaurant at around 8.30 after the 2 hour traffic nightmare a-a-a-r-r-g-g-h-h! Anyway, it was still fun and Zurich is very stylish. Enjoy

You didn’t want to take the train then?
