Montreux
After about a two hour train trip from Zermatt we arrived in Montreux. I was initially confused by Google Maps which gave the general impression we had to turn left after leaving the railway station, and walk for eight minutes, however as we took a elevator in the middle of the station it turned out that we needed to turn right and walk for about 20 metres (“over flat ground” as Google Maps put it, in other words we just needed to cross the road).
Close to 20 minutes later, after we had walked away from the hotel for 10 minutes and then walked back again we discovered where it really was.
Well, that made us chuckle.
The next day (today) we walked down some exceedingly steep stairs to get to Lake Geneva.
There was a Saturday market along the banks of the lake, along with a statue Freddie Mercury.
We boarded a two hour paddle steamer cruise, which turned out to be an excellent idea because we could see the beauty of the town, the lake and surrounding mountains from the boat. We also enjoyed a very delicious lunch in the boat’s restaurant.
Notice the contrails in the sky from various jet aircraft flying overhead.

Why Freddy Mercury? ( not that there’s anything wrong with a statue of Freddy Mercury). Is there a special connection between him and Montreux? And did you have to walk back UP those very steep steps?
Apparently he and Queen bought a recording studio here and lived here for a while because he loved the place.
Yes, we *did* have to walk up the steps. There was an escalator place conveniently adjacent however it was not operating.
